Overview

The directory of personal information banks (PIB) provides descriptions of personal information covered by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

Personal information banks

A PIB is any collection of personal information where information is:

  • linked to an identifiable individual
  • retrieved by an individual's name or identifying symbol (such as a client identification number)
  • grouped together to support a program, business activity or service

Each PIB includes:

  • its name and location
  • legal authority for its use
  • types of personal information it contains
  • how the personal information is used
  • who has access to it
  • who the information is about
  • policies and practices about the retention and disposal of the personal information
  • any exceptions to the uses and disclosures noted above
