Access to Ontario Government Orders in Council

Ontario introduced an online searchable database, in beta, to allow easy access to government Orders in Council. As of January 3, 2017, Orders in Council will be available online within 10 business days of being signed by the Lieutenant Governor.

Ontario’s Data Inventory

As a requirement of our new Open Data Directive, the province is working to release a public Data Inventory that includes a comprehensive list of data created, collected and/or managed by the government, to help with the ongoing release of open data sets. The Data Inventory will indicate whether a dataset is currently open or if it is in progress to become open. For those data sets that can’t be made open, an explanation will be provided.

Consultation on Poverty Reduction

Ontario will work with community leaders across the province to share best practices in data gathering and analysis, to help inform how Ontario will measure progress on our Poverty Reduction Strategy. This consultation will be used as a case study to inform the Public Engagement Framework.

Open Data Directive

Ontario was the first jurisdiction in Canada to proactively engage the public on its draft Open Data Directive. Feedback received helped develop the final directive, which comes into effect April 1, 2016. The directive applies to Ontario ministries and provincial agencies, and requires all data to be made public, unless it’s exempt for legal, privacy, security, confidentiality or commercially-sensitive reasons.

Consultation on Accessibility Certification

We're engaging businesses, the disability community and the public to develop a voluntary, third-party accessibility certification program. The program would recognize businesses and organizations that champion accessibility in their sectors or communities and contribute to a cultural shift towards Ontario’s goal of an accessible province by 2025. This consultation will be used as a case study to inform the Public Engagement Framework.
