Community Wildland Fire Protection Planning Grant

Description
The Community Wildland Fire Protection Planning Grant, formerly known as the Ontario FireSmart Communities Grant, is a limited funding opportunity offered by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).
The grant provides support for community wildland fire protection planning and hazard mapping to organized municipalities within Ontario’s legislated fire region.
Funding will help municipalities:
- complete hazard forest mapping for wildland fire hazards
- develop a Community Wildland Fire Protection Plan (CWPP)
- Wildland Fire Community Risk Assessment
- Wildland Fire Mitigation Strategies
Eligibility
To be eligible, municipalities must be located within the Fire Region of Ontario.
Municipalities are selected based on the following:
- amount of area estimated to have a high to extreme wildland fire hazard from the MNR Hazard Forest Maps
- average number of annual wildland fire occurrences
- project plan that is submitted through the application process
- demonstrated need for financial assistance to complete project
- level of financial commitment indicated by community to wildland urban interface program initiatives
- community support of wildland urban interface, risk reduction (prevention or mitigation) and FireSmart Canada Programs
- commitment to implementation of mitigation strategy.
Municipalities that have been chosen to receive the grant will receive support documentation by email from ministry staff.

Emissions Performance Program

Description
The Emissions Performance Program (EPP) is a non-competitive program funded by compliance payments collected through the Emissions Performance Standards (EPS) regulation. The program supports projects to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at eligible industrial facilities.
The EPP will fund 2 types of projects:
- capital projects
- study-based projects
Eligibility
Eligible facilities for the program:
- are registered in the Emissions Performance Standards Program
- have purchased Excess Emissions Units
- do not generate electricity as their primary industrial activity
Examples of project activities that are eligible for funding include (but are not limited to):
- stationary equipment retrofits for energy efficiency and fuel switching
- mobile equipment retrofits for energy efficiency and fuel switching
- building envelope upgrades (insulation, windows, doors)
- heat recovery
- industrial process changes
- carbon capture and storage
- clean electricity and low-carbon fuel production for own use

Fire Protection Services Reimbursement: Unincorporated Ontario

Description
This program is designed to provide municipalities with reimbursement opportunities related to the provision of emergency services in unincorporated areas of Ontario that occurred between March 16, 2026 to March 14, 2027. Reimbursement rates will be based on service rates utilized by the Ministry of Transportation for fire departments responses on provincial highways.
Eligibility
The following call types may be eligible for payment:
- on roads that are not considered provincial highways by the Ministry of Transportation:
- motor vehicle collisions
- hazmat
- vehicle fires
- false alarms
- public hazard assistance calls:
- carbon monoxide incidents
- public utility incidents
- electrical utility incidents
- natural, Propane or other gas utility incidents
- structure fires
- rescue (defined as an emergency incident that primarily involves activities directed at locating and rescuing endangered persons and removing those persons to a safe location, this could also include but is not limited to the provisions of emergency medical care)
the provisions of any emergency services listed above, within a provincial park in unincorporated Ontario

Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program

The Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program provides funding for strategic investments in the forest sector that:
- enhance competitiveness
- support new market access
- provide benefits to Ontario’s broader forest sector
- strengthen regional economies
Support is available under two project categories:
- business projects
- collaboration projects

Eligibility
Business projects
Support is available for Ontario-based projects with at least $3 million in eligible costs undertaken by for-profit manufacturers and processors of wood and forest biomass across Ontario, including:
- saw mills
- pulp and paper mills
- secondary wood manufacturers
- bio-economy projects
Harvesting and resource extraction projects are not eligible for funding.
Collaboration projects
Support is available for Ontario-based projects with at least $3 million in eligible costs undertaken through a collaboration of:
- forest sector for-profit businesses
- not-for-profit research organizations
- forest industry associations
- academia
Eligible collaborations should develop, diversify and transform Ontario’s forest sector through innovation in technology, process or products.
A minimum of three partners are required (including at least one Ontario-based for-profit forestry/wood products company).

Heritage Organization Development Grant 2026-27

Description
The Heritage Organization Development Grant (HODG) is an annual, statutory-based operating grant designed to promote public awareness of Ontario's rich and diverse heritage. The program provides historical societies, museums and other heritage associations located throughout the province with a portion of their annual operating support.
The Heritage Organization Development Grant is distributed to recipients operating a year-round or seasonal facility in accordance with Regulation 879, Grants to Incorporated Historical Societies and Associations under the Ontario Heritage Act.
Eligibility
Eligible recipients are non-profit corporations, with their head office in the Province of Ontario, that are actively involved in local outreach activities such as the production of displays and promotional materials, public programs, lecture series, walking tours and special activities designed to inform and educate the general public about their community heritage.
To be considered an eligible applicant to the program, your organization will need to meet the following requirements:
- be a registered non-profit corporation or an affiliate of the Ontario Historical Society
- have been in operation and incorporated for at least a year
- have as its primary objective the support, encouragement and facilitation of the conservation, protection and promotion of your community's heritage
- be governed by a Board of Directors
- have spent in the preceding fiscal year at least $250 on outreach activities (education or extension programs that support activities designed to increase knowledge, awareness and promotion of your community's heritage)
New applicants: If you are a first-time applicant and your organization meets the above requirements, you must submit with your application a copy of your organization Constitution and By-laws.
- Funding is not guaranteed and is dependent upon funds available.
- The HODG program does not provide funding for projects or capital grants.

Indigenous Participation Fund
The Indigenous Participation Fund (IPF) provides funding to improve the capacity of Indigenous communities to participate in consultation related to mineral exploration and mine development, and economic opportunities associated with the minerals sector.
There are 3 streams available:

Consultation supports

Description
The consultation supports stream provides funding for salary costs for key staff positions and eligible activity costs, such as staff training and development, staff travel, facilities, equipment and meeting expenses and professional fees.
This funding helps Indigenous communities build capacity to participate and respond to consultations about mineral exploration and mine development. Examples include:
- taking part in consultation led by a single ministry acting as the representative of the Crown in Right of Ontario
- taking part in a coordinated multi-ministry consultation process to discuss matters related to Aboriginal and/or treaty rights
This stream also helps increase community knowledge and understanding of the mineral development sequence — including mineral exploration, development and mining activities — and the related economic benefits.
Greater awareness and knowledge will better equip communities to:
- participate in economic development activities that may arise
- provide informed recommendations to leadership on decisions related to mineral sector activities
Eligibility
Both single applicants and joint applicants (a group of communities) can apply.
- Single applicants – Indigenous communities in areas of mineral exploration or development activity.
- Joint applicants – 2 or more Indigenous communities, or a representative organization with member communities in areas of mineral exploration or development. Letters of support are required for joint applications.
Mineral Development Advisor
- Any Indigenous community in Ontario whose credibly asserted or established Aboriginal and/or treaty rights have the potential to be adversely impacted by mineral activity, can apply for funding to support a Mineral Development Advisor.
Mineral Sector Specialist
Representative organizations may apply for funding to support a Mineral Sector Specialist.
Examples of representative organizations include:
- Tribal councils
- Political-Territorial Organization
- Indigenous Organization with Ontario-wide scope

The mining conferences sub-stream provides financial assistance for communities and member communities to attend mining conferences in Ontario. Indigenous communities and organizations attend these conferences to improve their relationships between Indigenous communities or organizations, with government and industry proponents, and to increase their knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and economic activities associated with Ontario’s mineral sector.

Ontario Sport Hosting Program 2026-27

Description
The Sport Hosting Program provides project-based funding to help applicants deliver major national and international amateur sport events in Ontario.
The objectives of the program are to:
- create legacies that support sport at the provincial, regional and local level
- provide economic benefits through increased levels of tourism, expenditures and improved public infrastructure
- foster a culture of sport and physical activity in communities by creating role models and enhancing community spirit and involvement in sports
- increase opportunities for Ontario athletes to compete and participate in events in Ontario
- seek new avenues to build and develop the sport capacity of the province by providing additional ways to develop and train coaches, officials and volunteers
- create a culture of sport that engages all Ontarians
Eligibility
Eligible applicants
To apply for this program, you must:
- be a legal entity and have been in existence for one year or longer as of the application date
- not in default of the terms and conditions of any grant or loan agreement with any ministry or agency of the Government of Ontario
- not self-endorse your own application for the program
- be an eligible applicant under one of the three application streams for the program
Stream 1: Provincial or National Sport Organizations
- Provincial Sport/Multi-Sport Organizations recognized under Ontario’s Provincial Sport Recognition Policy.
- National Sport Organizations funded by Sport Canada.

- include representation from no less than six provinces/territories including Ontario (a country may replace a province) or the National Championship for a specific sport, in a specific age group as confirmed by the National Sport Organization (or the International Federation in Appendix 2 from the guidelines). Ontario must be represented in these Championships
- International events must:
- be sanctioned by the International Federation, as per the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee and/or Panamerican Sport Association
- include representation from no less than two countries, including Canada and one country from outside of North America. We will provide an exemption to events for Canadian National Teams as confirmed by the National Sport Organization funded by Sport Canada

Ontario Transit Investment Fund

Description
The Ontario Transit Investment Fund (OTIF) provides annual funding of $5 million to deliver local and intercommunity transportation projects in unserved and underserved areas in Ontario, particularly in rural areas.
OTIF provides time-limited, application-based funding for up to 5 years to support the start-up and growth of transit services across the province. Through OTIF, the province is providing eligible communities with the support they need to build safe and reliable transit services.

Pothole Prevention and Repair Program

Description
The Pothole Prevention and Repair Program helps make Ontario’s roads safer by reducing accidents and damage caused by potholes.
The program supports smaller municipalities with:
- road maintenance
- set standards to help improve road conditions
- promote high-quality roadwork across the province
Municipalities that receive funding must meet the requirements set out in the Guidelines.
Eligibility
The Pothole Prevention and Repair Program is open to municipalities with a population of 10,000 or less based on the 2021 Statistics Canada survey. To qualify, municipalities must be interested in carrying out eligible pothole prevention and repair projects.

Road Safety Initiatives Fund (RSIF)

Description
The legislative authority for municipalities to use Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) systems in Ontario has been repealed. As of November 14, 2025, municipalities are no longer allowed to issue any Provincial Offences Act (POA) tickets or administrative penalty orders for speeding infractions captured by ASE cameras.
To support continued road safety, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) created the Road Safety Initiatives Fund (RSIF). The fund provides financial support for eligible municipalities as they transition from ASE to other safety measures in School Zones (SZs) and Community Safety Zones (CSZs).
The RSIF supports initiatives in the following key areas:
- traffic calming and control measures, including infrastructure-based safety improvements that create safer and more predictable driving conditions
- signage enhancements, including regulatory, warning and informational signage that promotes slower, safer driving behaviour
- targeted roadside enforcement and operational safety measures that reinforce speed compliance and enhance pedestrian and local safety
Eligibility
To be eligible for funding under the RSIF, a municipality must have:
- entered into a signed ASE agreement with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) before ASE was repealed on November 14, 2025
- installed, deployed or held a contract or arrangement for ASE systems at any time between December 1, 2019 and November 13, 2025

The Skills Development Fund (SDF) Capital Stream offers funding to eligible organizations to:
- build new training centres
- upgrade existing training centres
- convert an existing building into a training centre

Eligibility
The following organizations are eligible to apply to the SDF Capital Stream as a primary applicant:
- employers in Ontario (other than the educational organizations listed as being eligible to apply as partners)
- minister-approved, non-college apprenticeship program training delivery agents
- non-profit organizations including Indigenous band offices and Indigenous Skills and Employment Training agreement holders
- professional, industry or employer associations
- trade unions or union-affiliated organizations
- municipalities
- hospitals
- District Social Services Administration Boards
- Consolidated Municipal Service Managers
The following educational organizations are eligible to apply to the SDF Capital Stream as a partner with one or more of the eligible primary applicant organizations:
- district school boards
- publicly assisted colleges, universities or Indigenous Institutes in Ontario
- career colleges
- private universities with consent from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities to offer degrees

Winter Roads Program: Bridges and Culverts Stream

Description
The Winter Roads Program – Bridges and Culverts Stream provides funding to Northern Ontario remote communities for new water crossing infrastructure (pre-engineered bridges and culverts) and repairs to existing water crossing structures.
Projects are located on the Ontario winter roads network, which provides vital seasonal connections between the Far North and the provincial highway network.
Eligibility
Project funding is open to remote communities in Northern Ontario that are not connected to a provincial highway network by an all-season road. Eligible applicants include Indigenous communities, Indigenous organizations such as Tribal Councils, corporations or partnerships formed by eligible applicants to build or maintain winter roads, and the Town of Moosonee.
Applications may be submitted by:
Single applicants – one eligible applicant.
Joint applicants – two or more eligible applicants.
Applicants are encouraged, wherever possible, to submit applications with multiple projects that cover the same road network. Applicants are also encouraged to work together to maximize the benefits of available funding through joint applications.
Joint applications must be accompanied by a resolution in support of the application from each applicant represented on the application. The applicant responsible for maintaining the corridor where the project is located should be identified as the project lead and submit the application.
