3. Skill/experience requirements

  1. Novice Boxer
    1. Novice is a boxer who has competed in 10 bouts or fewer.
    2. A Novice boxer may be considered for Open competition based on the judgement of his/her Provincial Branch Executive provided the boxer has competed in at least five (5) bouts as a Novice with two (2) wins and no more than two (2) completed exhibition bouts.
    3. Exhibition bouts count in the number of total bouts of Novice boxers.
    4. If a Novice boxer enters a Novice tournament with ten (10) bouts or less and finishes a tournament with more than ten (10) total bouts, the boxer remains a Novice until the end of the tournament.
  2. Open Boxer
    1. Open Boxer is a boxer who has competed in more than 10 bouts, or if a boxer has been upgraded as per rule 1b.

4. Matching guidelines

  1. Age
    1. Fun Box Bouts - (6–12 year olds) - 12-month age difference allowed
      1. Ages 11–12 can also participate.
    2. Junior A vs Junior A - (11–12 year olds) - No Restrictions
    3. Junior A vs Junior B - 24-month age difference allowed
    4. Junior B vs Junior B - (13–14 year olds) – No Restrictions
    5. Junior B vs Junior C - 24-month age difference allowed
    6. Junior C vs Junior C - (15–16 year olds) - No Restrictions
    7. Youth vs Youth – (17–18 year olds) – No Restrictions
    8. Matches between Junior C versus Youth upon approval of Supervisor only
    9. Masters 40 yrs of age or over may only box opponent up to 10 years older/younger by date of birth
    10. Youth who have reached their 17 birthdate – can box Elite boxers
    11. Youth who are Elite by year of birth and participating in Provincial/Nationals and Qualifiers may box Elite
  2. Weight
    1. Male Youth and Elite
      1. Boxers under 60 kg (124.5 lbs): 3 kg (6.6 lbs) difference allowed
      2. Boxers over 60 kg (124.5 lbs) to 71 kg (156.5 lbs): 4 kg (8.8 lbs) difference allowed
      3. Boxers over 71 kg (156.5 lbs) to 80 kg (176 lbs): 5 kg (11 lbs) difference allowed
      4. Boxers over 80 kg (176 lbs) to 92 kg (202.4 lbs): 6 kg (13 lbs) difference allowed
      5. Both boxers over 92 kg (202.4 lbs): No maximum weight difference
    2. Female Youth and Elite
      1. Boxers under 66 kg (145.2 lbs) 3 kg: (6.6 lbs) difference allowed
      2. Boxers over 66 kg (145.2 lbs) to 75 kg (165 lbs): 4 kg (8.8 lbs) difference allowed
      3. Boxers over 75 kg (165 lbs) to 81 kg (178.2 lbs): 6 kg (13 lbs) difference allowed
      4. Both boxers over 81 kg (178.2 lbs): No maximum weight difference
    3. Male and Female Junior A, B, C
      1. Boxers under 54 kg (118.2 lbs) 3 kg: (6.6 lbs) difference allowed
      2. Boxers over 54 kg (118.2 lbs) to 66 kg (145.2 lbs): 4 kg (8.8 lbs) difference allowed
      3. Boxers over 66 kg (145.2 lbs) to 80 kg (176 lbs): 6 kg (13 lbs) difference allowed
      4. Both boxers over 80 kg (176 lbs): No maximum weight difference
    4. Male and Female Fun Bouts
      1. All Weight Classes: 3 kg (6.6 lbs) difference allowed
    5. Masters
      1. Boxers all Weight Classes: 4.5 kg (9.9 lbs) difference allowed
  3. Experience
    1. Fun Bouts: Maximum 10 bout difference
    2. Novice vs Novice: Maximum 7 bout difference
    3. Novice vs Open: Maximum 5 bout difference
    4. Open vs Open: No limit, each competitor’s experience considered

Please note:

  • Novice vs Open: Number and duration of rounds must match those of the Novice boxer.
  • Novice vs Elite: In order for a Novice Elite boxer to compete as an Elite Open boxer, the boxer must turn Open.
