To submit a report for your building to the Ministry of Energy you will be required to include information such as the specifications of your building, your EWRB ID and your energy and water usage data.

Your building information

When reporting your building's energy and usage data, you will need to include detailed information about your building to produce accurate performance metrics. See the following for the building information you will need to include in your report.

Gross floor area

You will need to report the total gross floor area, also known as the total square footage, of your building. You may have already calculated this in the process of determining if you were required to report. If you do not have this yet, read more on how to calculate your building's gross floor area.

Use types and their gross floor area

A building may include more than one property use type (for example, retail/multi-residential). You will need to indicate the various use types in your building. If there are multiple use types, you will need to provide the gross floor area for each use type in your building. Determine your property use types when you calculate your building's gross floor area.

Portfolio Manager property use types are different from MPAC building types. The MPAC building types are used to determine if you need to report, but in Portfolio Manager select the property use type(s) that you believe best represent the activity in your building. The Portfolio Manager use types are the ones that will be used to calculate your building's performance metrics.

The Portfolio Manager website lists the property use type(s) for reporting.

If you have multiple buildings on a property

For owners that have multiple buildings on a single property, determine whether you will report each building separately or all together. Reporting the buildings separately is considered best practice for tracking performance.

If you choose to report the multiple buildings individually, you will need to collect separate EWRB IDs and utility data for each building.

Determine how you plan to report your multiple buildings before contacting utilities for your energy and water usage data. If your buildings are metered separately you can request usage data for each building.
