Legislation: Land Titles Act, Land Registration Reform Act

Bulletin content

Introduction

On February 13, 2017 a change to the electronic land registration system (ELRS) will be introduced. This change will not require a new version of Teraview® to be downloaded and installed and only applies to electronic document types that contain statements with the abbreviation “no.” or “no(s).” instead if the word number or numbers in full.

Change

The abbreviation “no.” or “no(s).” will be automatically changed to “number” and “number(s)” respectively in order to comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. See the example below:

Currently:

610
Documentation regarding the death of (name), which is sufficient to deal with this transaction, is attached to registration no. (instrument no.).

As of February 13, 2017:

610
Documentation regarding the death of (name), which is sufficient to deal with this transaction, is attached to registration number (instrument number).

Work in Progress Documents (WIP)

If any electronic document that has a statement containing the abbreviation “no.” or “no(s).” selected is a WIP on February 13, 2017, the statement will need to be selected again, have any information entered and the document re-signed before the document can be registered.

The Electronic Registration Procedures Guide will be updated with this change in due course.
