How we’re making progress

Since 2018, we’ve taken over 500 actions to save people, businesses, not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, universities and colleges, school boards and hospitals time and money. Once fully implemented, the steps in the Spring 2024 Red Tape Reduction Package will build on the actions Ontario has taken to cut red tape to date, saving people and businesses over 1.5 million hours and $1.2 billion every year.

Each fall, the Ministry of Red Tape Reduction reports on the government’s progress on reducing red tape in the annual Burden Reduction Report.

Learn more about initiatives to remove red tape in the 2024 Burden Reduction Report, such as:

  • Making public transit more affordable through the One Fare Program, saving time and money for transit customers while reducing the stress and complexity of daily commutes.
  • Launching the automatic vehicle permit renewal program, simplifying life for over eight million drivers.
  • Applying innovative solutions to reduce administrative burdens for family doctors using Artificial Intelligence (AI) scribes.
  • Modernizing alcohol sales in the marketplace, making life easier and saving time for people across the province. For small businesses, this creates opportunities for growth and allows them to better serve their communities in new ways.
