Attestation letter for international students
As of January 22, 2024, most international students who want to study in Ontario must provide a provincial attestation letter (PAL) with their study permit application. Students should contact the Ontario postsecondary institution where they have accepted their offer of admission and intend to enrol to get a PAL. Learn more
Overview
Ontario's private postsecondary universities and colleges offer:
- undergraduate degrees
- graduate degrees
- co-op programs
- professional programs
Private postsecondary schools, whether in Ontario or outside the province, can offer degrees if they have the consent of the Minister of Colleges and Universities, or if they have degree-granting authority through an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
Consent or legislative authority is also required to use the word "university" relating to an educational institution in Ontario.
Degrees and programs offered by Minister's consent
The Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB) is the Ontario agency that makes recommendations to the Minister of Colleges and Universities about the program quality of applications for Minister's consent as required under the Post-Secondary Education Choice and Excellence Act, 2000.
Visit PEQAB to learn more about the:
- ministerial consent process
- application process to apply for ministerial consent
- current status of applications for consent
OSAP eligibility
If you plan to attend a private postsecondary school, you may qualify for financial assistance through the Ontario Student Assistant Program (OSAP).
