EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Explanatory Note was written as a reader’s aid to Bill 216 and does not form part of the law.  Bill 216 has been enacted as Chapter 24 of the Statutes of Ontario, 2005.

The Bill amends the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998.

A committee is established to be known as the Fuel Industry Technician Advisory Committee for the group of trades or occupations consisting of the activities for which a person is required to have a certificate under Ontario Regulation 215/01 made under the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000 in order to carry on those activities. The Committee has functions that are similar to those of committees that the Minister is allowed to establish under section 5 of the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998.

An Act to amend
the Apprenticeship and
Certification Act, 1998

Assented to June 13, 2005

Note: This Act amends the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, which has not previously been amended.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. (1) Section 5 of the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998 is amended by adding the following subsections:

Fuel industry committee

(1.1) A committee is established to be known in English as the Fuel Industry Technician Advisory Committee and in French as Comité consultatif des techniciens de l’industrie des combustibles for the group of trades or occupations consisting of the activities for which a person is required to have a certificate under Ontario Regulation 215/01 made under the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000 in order to carry on those activities.

Functions

(1.2) The functions of the Fuel Industry Technician Advisory Committee shall be the functions described in subsection (1) as they relate to the group of trades or occupations mentioned in subsection (1.1).

(2) Subsection 5 (2) of the Act is amended by adding “mentioned in subsection (1) or (1.1)” after “committee” in the portion before clause (a).

(3) Subsection 5 (3) of the Act is amended by adding “mentioned in subsection (1) or (1.1)” after “committee”.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on a day to be named by proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Apprenticeship and Certification Amendment Act, 2005.
