Order in Council 595/2018

On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the Provincial Judges Remuneration Commission (“Commission”) is established under Section 51.13 of the Courts of Justice Act and its composition and functions are set out in Appendix A of the Framework Agreement as a Schedule to the Act;

And Whereas the head of the Commission is to be appointed jointly by the associations representing the provincial judges and the Lieutenant Governor in Council;

And Whereas William Kaplan of the City of Toronto has been re-appointed as the head of the 9^th Commission for a term of four years commencing on July 1, 2014 and ending on June 30, 2018;

And Whereas the mandate of the 9^th Commission is to make recommendations regarding provincial judges’ remuneration for the period starting on April 1, 2014 and ending on March 31, 2018;

And Whereas, as of the date this Order is made, the process of making submissions to the 9^th Commission has not yet commenced;

And Whereas the Association of Ontario Judges, which represents the provincial judges and the Lieutenant Governor in Council have jointly agreed that the members of the 9^th Commission should sit simultaneously as the 9^th and 10^th Commission and also make judicial remuneration recommendations for the period starting on April 1, 2018 and ending on March 31, 2022;

Now therefore, pursuant to Section 6, paragraph 3 of the Schedule to the Courts of Justice Act,

William Kaplan of the City of Toronto

is re-appointed as the head of the Commission for an additional term of four years commencing on July 1, 2018 and ending on June 30, 2022.
