Overview

Under the Civil Remedies Act, the Attorney General can ask civil courts for an order to take possession of (forfeit) property that has been used for – or results from – unlawful activity.

This type of property could include:

  • money acquired from a phone scam
  • a car driven during a street racing incident
  • money acquired from a home renovation scam

If you were a victim of an offence where property was forfeited by civil courts, you may be eligible for compensation.

How do I qualify

You can only qualify for compensation under this program if:

  • you are a victim of an offence listed on this page as a notice
  • your losses fall within the timeframe listed on the notice (where applicable)

File a claim

  1. check the list of notices to see if you qualify
  2. complete the claim form. Make sure you fill it out in full and include the notice number
  3. submit your claim form by mail, email or fax to the Ministry of the Attorney General

Notice 718-24 Attorney General of Ontario and $68,475 in Canadian Currency and $199 in US Currency (in rem)

This notice relates to funds forfeited under the Civil Remedies Act  from an incident that occurred on April 19, 2020 and resulted in $72,727.25 being deposited into a special purpose account.

If you were a victim of this matter who suffered financial or other losses, please:

All claims must comply with section 6 of Ontario Regulation 498/06. You must provide proof of your claim. You may not qualify for compensation if you took part in the unlawful activity that resulted in the forfeiture.

Notice 719-24 Attorney General of Ontario and $47,100 in Canadian Currency (in rem)

This notice relates to funds forfeited under the Civil Remedies Act from an incident that occurred on August 30, 2020 and resulted in $49,551.32 being deposited into a special purpose account.

If you were a victim of this matter who suffered financial or other losses, please:

All claims must comply with section 6 of Ontario Regulation 498/06. You must provide proof of your claim. You may not qualify for compensation if you took part in the unlawful activity that resulted in the forfeiture.

Notice 720-24 Attorney General of Ontario and $30,520 in Canadian Currency (in rem)

This notice relates to funds forfeited under the Civil Remedies Act from an incident that occurred on March 16, 2018 and resulted in $32,777.33 being deposited into a special purpose account.

If you were a victim of this matter who suffered financial or other losses, please:
