Overview

We are looking at ways to improve provincial oversight of the towing industry in response to concerns raised about incidents of criminal activity and violence in the sector.

In June 2020, we established a task force to help develop a better oversight model to:

  • increase safety and enforcement
  • clarify protections for Ontarians
  • improve industry standards
  • consider tougher penalties for violators

About the consultation

Our task force consulted with over 70 stakeholders in sectors including:

  • towing
  • consumer protection
  • automobile insurance
  • municipalities
  • law enforcement

During these consultations, we heard a strong consensus that improvements to provincial oversight are required for the towing industry.

We also asked about your experiences with the towing industry to help us improve your towing experience and oversight of the industry through an online survey. The consultation is now closed.
