Complete 2019
The Hamilton Harbour and Naturalizing Windermere Basin has been transformed from an open body of water with limited diversity, into a healthy diverse Great Lakes coastal wetland.
Improvements to the Hamilton Harbour and Naturalizing Windermere Basin will:
- enhance the Dundas Wastewater Treatment Plant’s disinfection system to remove chlorine in the plant’s sewage
- increase Hamilton Harbour’s visual appeal, while improving the fish and wildlife’s habitat
- install new systems to control the flow of sanitary sewage and storm water to reduce untreated discharges into Hamilton Harbour
- create an open body into a 13 hectare healthy Great Lakes coastal wetland that will benefit local fish and wildlife.
- be home to a variety of plants and animals, while offering community-based recreational opportunities.
