Results of the ergonomics related to falls and musculoskeletal disorder prevention in metal fabrication provincial inspection initiatives that took place between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2019.
Overview
In 2018-19, the Specialized Professional Services Ergonomics Program conducted health and safety initiatives aimed at:
- ergonomics related to falls (ladders, stairs, access platforms)
- musculoskeletal disorder prevention in metal fabrication
These initiatives ran from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019.
Ergonomics compliance initiatives
Ergonomics is about the interaction between workers and their work environment. Ministry ergonomists provide support to ministry inspections that include an ergonomics component. Ministry ergonomists also conduct proactive ergonomics inspections.
Results
During this initiative, ministry ergonomists:
- conducted 185 field visits
- visited 147 workplaces
- issued 255 orders and requirements, including 3 stop work orders
- orders per field visit – 1.35
- orders per workplace visited – 1.70
