Overview

The International Energy Demonstration Fund provides funding for your company to show the benefits of Ontario clean energy technology outside of the province. Test your technology in new operational environments, such as a utility, business or large manufacturing company.

This program can help strengthen your company’s ability to:

  • participate in global energy markets
  • solve international energy challenges

Eligibility

Your company must be based in Ontario and project demonstrations must happen outside of Ontario – in Canada or around the world.

Examples of eligible clean energy technology projects include:

  • microgrid
  • solar
  • storage
  • smart meter data
  • nuclear

Preference is given to technologies that:

  • meet a need from the demonstration host
  • haven't been implemented in new markets
  • offer additional environmental, economic and social benefits

What we fund

You can get money for costs incurred in Ontario that support the implementation of the demonstration project, including:

  • overhead costs related directly to the project
  • equipment, installation and retrofitting costs
  • direct labour costs for people involved in the project

You can't get money to travel, or for costs incurred outside of Ontario. See the IEDF program guidelines for more information about eligible costs.

Funding amount

You could get between $250,000 and $2 million, depending on the project type and total project costs.
