Report back on the Gillese Inquiry

On July 31, 2019, the Honourable Eileen E. Gillese, Commissioner of the Long-Term Care Homes Public Inquiry, released her report, the Public Inquiry into the Safety and Security of Residents in the Long-Term Care Homes System

We are grateful to Justice Gillese for her strong recommendations to make the long-term care system in Ontario better and safer.

In response, we are pleased to issue the Report Back on the Gillese Inquiry, which provides an update on work done to date in four key areas:

  • increasing awareness
  • prevention
  • deterrence
  • detection of intentional harm in long-term care homes

Long-term care staffing study

As part of our work to modernize the long-term care homes system, we released the long-term care staffing study, which will inform the development of a comprehensive staffing strategy later this year.

We would like to thank the dedicated people who served on the long-term care staffing study advisory group for your time and expertise, and the participants from the long-term care sector, including labour partners and operators, for your input and advice to the Advisory Group.
