Quinte Courthouse
Law and Safety Infrastructure
Region: Eastern
City/Town: Belleville
Complete 2013
The Quinte Courthouse opened in August 2013 in downtown Belleville.
This project improved access to justice for the County of Hastings by combining the Superior Court of Justice, and the Ontario Court of Justice services into one location from three separate locations.
This one location includes:
- the judiciary
- crown attorneys
- courts administration
- victim witness assistance program
- Hastings County Law Association
- adult probation and parole
- legal aid Ontario
- mental health services
The new six storey facility:
- can accommodate 500 staff and visitors daily, bringing increased demand for services in downtown Belleville
- increases the number of courtrooms in the County of Hastings
- features better technology and security and improves access for people with disabilities
The courthouse was designed and built to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standard. As part of this commitment, a 360 square-metre green roof was incorporated into the building design to improve energy conservation and storm water runoff.
