This expansion will mean better quality of care, reduced wait times and overcrowding and cancer care closer to home for Barrie and area patients, one of the fastest growing regions in Ontario.

Part of a larger project to redevelop 400,000 square feet at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, this expansion features:

  • more than 100 new beds, for a total of 400
  • a new coronary care unit for critically ill heart patients
  • expanded emergency services
  • out-patient services
  • two new operating rooms

This center is expected to handle more than 65,000 patient visits in its first year and will improve patient care with new services and state-of-the-art treatment and technology, including new laboratory and diagnostic imaging facilities. It will offer more than 36,000 additional inpatient days of care every year and adds space for two 32-bed inpatient care units.
