The new building will include:

  • 15 courtrooms
  • four meeting rooms where parties can gather more information or settle a case without going to trial
  • Ontario’s first Aboriginal Conference Settlement Suite, designed to give First Nations, Inuit and Métis people a stronger voice in the justice process. The suite will be a culturally and architecturally relevant space where aboriginal traditions are acknowledged and understood.

As a part of the government’s commitment to energy conservation in Ontario, the new facility will be built to Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver standard.

The new building is set to open in early 2014, and will feature:

  • barrier-free access to courtrooms
  • infrared hearing assistance
  • barrier-free witness stands and jury boxes
