Order in Council 1179/2024

On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the Government of Ontario wishes to establish a special advisor to provide advice to the Minister of Finance on issues related to the effective implementation of the Toronto “New Deal”, including the longer-term sustainability of the City’s finances and the advancement of Provincial priorities;

Pursuant to the prerogative of His Majesty the King in right of Ontario to provide for the appointment of advisors to serve His Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities;

Special Advisor

1. The office of Special Advisor, Toronto New Deal (the “Special Advisor”) accountable to the Minister of Finance (the “Minister”), is hereby established for a period beginning on September 1, 2024 and not extending beyond December 31, 2025.

Terms of Reference

2. The Minister shall determine the terms of reference for the Special Advisor and may amend them from time to time.

Appointment

3. The Minister will appoint the Special Advisor by Minister’s letter, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Minister for a period not extending beyond March 31, 2025, and who may be reappointed by the Minister for a maximum of nine additional months, terminating no later than December 31, 2025.

Remuneration and expenses

4. The Special Advisor shall be paid such remuneration and expenses as the Lieutenant Governor in Council may determine.
