On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the Special Investigations Unit is established under Part VII (section 113) of the Police Services Act, (“the Act”);

And whereas administration of Part VII of the Act was assigned and transferred to the Attorney General by Order in Council numbered O.C. 814/93, dated March 25, 1993;

And whereas Order in Council numbered O.C. 814/93 further assigned and transferred powers and duties in Part VII of the Act vested in the Solicitor General and Minister of Correctional Services, including those under subsection 113(2), to the Attorney General;

And whereas O.C. 1143/2018 provides:

  • That the Attorney General continues to administer Part VII (section 113) of the Act;
  • That the Attorney General is to exercise the powers and perform the duties, functions and responsibilities that are assigned by law to the Minister; and
  • That the Ministry shall carry out the functions, responsibilities and programs that are assigned by law to the Ministry;

Therefore, pursuant to subsection 113(2) of the Police Services Act, Joseph Martino of Mississauga shall be appointed Director of the Special Investigations Unit for a fixed term of two years effective January 1, 2020.
