Order in Council 191/2022

On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the Government of Ontario announced its commitment to establish a legal, competitive market for online gaming that will reflect consumer choice while protecting consumers, providing certainty to businesses and ensuring that Ontarians have access to secure and legal gaming options;

And whereas the position of Special Advisor, Commercial Project Lead of the iGaming Initiative to advise the Minister of Finance, was established pursuant to Order in Council O.C. 121/2021 for a period of one year commencing on January 29, 2021;

Pursuant to the prerogative of Her Majesty the Queen in right of Ontario to provide for the appointment of advisors to serve Her Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities;

Special Advisor

1. The position of Special Advisor, Commercial Project Lead of the iGaming Initiative (the “Special Advisor”) to advise the Minister of Finance and the Attorney General (the “Ministers”), is hereby re-established for a period not exceeding one year commencing on the date of this Order.

Terms of Reference

2. The Ministers shall determine the terms of reference for the Special Advisor and may, upon agreement, amend them from time to time.
3. The terms of reference will include without limitation the accountabilities of the Special Advisor in the provision of advice and recommendations on the establishment of a legal, competitive market for online gaming in Ontario.

Reappointment

4. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may reappoint the Special Advisor, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Lieutenant Governor in Council for a period not exceeding one year commencing on the date of this Order.

Remuneration and expenses

5. The Special Advisor shall be paid such remuneration and expenses as the Lieutenant Governor in Council may determine.
