Order in Council 2461/2017

On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the position of Special Advisor, Chief Scientist was established by Order in Council 2242/2017, dated November 17, 2017;

Whereas Molly Shoichet was appointed to the position of Special Advisor, Chief Scientist (“Chief Scientist”) by Order in Council 2243/2017, dated November 17, 2017;

And Whereas Molly Shoichet is expected to have a continuing employment relationship with the University of Toronto for some time during her appointment as Chief Scientist;

Therefore, pursuant to the prerogative of Her Majesty The Queen in Right of Ontario to provide for the remuneration of advisors who serve Her Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities:

1. In respect of her appointment as Chief Scientist, Molly Shoichet shall be entitled to the following remuneration:

   Remuneration

   1. Remuneration paid at a rate equivalent to $310,145 per year, which amount is based on a full-time schedule, pro-rated to reflect the percentage of time that Molly Shoichet performs the duties of the Chief Scientist from time to time during her appointment;

   Severance

   2. Severance of $50,000 to Ms. Shoichet in the event of early termination of the appointment by the Crown for any reason except for cause.

   Expenses

   3. Reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out the duties of the Chief Scientist in accordance with the Management Board of Cabinet’s Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Directive and other applicable directives. 
2. The Minister of Research, Innovation and Science may, on behalf of the Crown, enter into an agreement with Molly Shoichet and the University of Toronto on remuneration and related matters of mutual interest to the parties.
