On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

Whereas the Special Investigations Unit is established under Part VII (section 113) of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.15 (“the Act”);

And whereas the powers and duties of the Solicitor General were assigned and transferred to the Solicitor General and Minister of Correctional Services by Order in Council numbered O.C. 357/93, dated February 3, 1993;

And whereas administration of Part VII of the Act was assigned and transferred to the Attorney General by Order in Council numbered O.C. 814/93, dated March 25, 1993;

And whereas Order in Council numbered O.C. 814/93 further assigned and transferred powers and duties in Part VII of the Act vested in the Solicitor General and Minister of Correctional Services, including those under subsection 113(2), to the Attorney General; 

And whereas Order in Council numbered O.C. 1705/2003, dated November 24, 2003 provides that the Attorney General and the Ministry of the Attorney General shall continue to exercise all powers and duties and preside over all programs and activities pertaining to the Special Investigations Unit; 

And whereas subsection 77(c) of the Legislation Act, 2006, S.O. 2006, c. 21, Sched. F, provides that power to appoint a person to public office includes power to temporarily appoint another person to the office if it is vacant;

Therefore, pursuant to subsection 113(2) of the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P.15, Joseph Martino of Mississauga be appointed Director of the Special Investigations Unit on an interim basis effective April 1, 2019, for a fixed term of five months or until such time as a new Director is appointed and this Order in Council is revoked.
