Status: Action in progress
What we heard
There are varying rules around the use of long combination vehicles between Ontario and other jurisdictions such as Quebec.
Our plan
The Ministry of Transportation will enhance, expand and improve the long combination vehicle approval process by the end of 2016. The Government of Ontario is also collaborating with other eastern provinces to harmonize the rules and requirements for long combination vehicles.
Digitize vehicle registration
Status: Action in progress
What we heard
Dealerships currently have to physically go to ServiceOntario locations to register the sale of a vehicle, adding time and unnecessary steps to the process.
Our plan
Vehicle registration is part of the road user safety modernization program’s future projects.
The first segment that focuses on commercial vehicles is under way, with three releases completed to date. The final release that deals with the online services will be implemented in November 2016 through a staged rollout over a six month period.
The Ministry of Transportation is planning to move vehicle registration processes online as part of the modernization of driver and vehicle lines of business. More specifically, modernization of the vehicle transactions to be online and streamlined to be more efficient for Ontarians. A suite of potential transactions are proposed to move from being paper based over the counter to customer initiated and online completion. This is expected to be completed by 2025.
Simplify business registration process
Status: Action tracking
What we heard
The process for registering a business is duplicative, paper-based and intensive.
Our plan
ServiceOntario will reduce duplication and administrative burdens for businesses by developing an online business registration and reporting system, along with other provinces and the federal government. The system will use federal business numbers as the common identifier.
Improve access to compliance information for businesses
Status: Action tracking
What we heard
Businesses must get information about regulatory requirements from each ministry or agency.
Our plan
The Government of Ontario will work across ministries to ensure all relevant business information, regulatory requirements, and compliance information are posted to Ontario.ca.
