Between 2017 and 2020, the FCRC reviewed a total of 95 fatal collisions of which the circumstances of 84 fatal collisions are summarized in this report. The 84 collisions resulted in a total of 92 deaths.

There are lessons to be learned from each fatality review. Meeting early and reviewing a traffic death extensively provides detailed information which cannot be provided any other way.

Combining information from each review, and examining them cumulatively, provides a unique perspective on trends and may provide opportunities for improvement not seen in an individual case.

This is the first report of the Ottawa FCRC provides an opportunity to identify the committee’s role, its work to date and areas which should be studied and considered further. Future reports will integrate lessons learned from regular traffic fatality reviews based on these initial findings and recommendations.
